Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Centinela mobile application and related services (the "Service"), operated by Changing Lifes LLC ("Centinela", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

01 Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use Centinela. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.

02 What Centinela is — and is not

• Automatic features have limits. Detecting your safe word, a scream or other signals depends on your phone, its settings and permissions, the battery, the language, the restrictions of the operating system and the noise around you. They can miss a real emergency or start a false alarm. On iPhone, some of them work only while Centinela is open or running in the background. Do not rely on Centinela as your only means of protection.
• PINs and ending an emergency. Your PIN stops an alarm you started by mistake. Your duress PIN makes the alarm look cancelled on your screen while your circle keeps being alerted. Without a PIN, an emergency that has been sent cannot be cancelled from your phone: your circle ends it by confirming that you are safe. Keep your PINs secret — anyone who knows your PIN can stop an alarm.

Community alerts are user-generated and community-verified. We do not independently verify every report and are not responsible for decisions you make based on information in the Service. Never put yourself at risk to help someone: if you receive an SOS, call your local emergency number first.

03 Your account

• You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for activity under your account.
• You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current.
• Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use at support@getcentinela.app.

04 Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Submit false, misleading, or fabricated alerts or reports.
• Start false SOS alarms on purpose, or test alarms on people who do not know it is a test.
• Use Centinela to monitor, track or listen to anyone without their knowledge and consent. Everyone in a circle joins it themselves, and a rescue can only open the live location and microphone of someone who agreed to it in advance.
• Harass, threaten, defame, or endanger any person, or incite violence.
• Post unlawful, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable content.
• Upload advertising, spam, QR codes, or promotional content in reports or chats.
• Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation.
• Interfere with, scrape, reverse-engineer, or attempt to disrupt the Service.
• Use the Service to violate any applicable law or third-party right.

05 User content & license

You retain ownership of the content you submit. You grant Centinela a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that content within the Service for the purpose of operating and improving it (including showing alerts and chats to other users). You represent that you have the rights to the content you submit.

06 Moderation, reputation & sanctions

To keep the network trustworthy, we operate moderation, reputation, and sanction systems:

• Content may be reviewed by automated systems (including AI) and human moderators, and may be hidden or removed.
• Your reputation may rise or fall based on confirmed-true reports, upheld or dismissed reports, and removed content.
• We may issue warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans for violations. Thresholds and durations are applied at our discretion and may be automated.
• You may submit one appeal per sanction; decisions are made within a reasonable time.

07 Subscriptions & payments

Centinela offers a free tier and paid plans.

• One plan per circle: each circle you create needs its own plan, with a fixed number of seats (5, 10 or 20 people, including you). You can create up to 3 circles.
• Members are covered: everyone in a circle with an active plan gets all paid features while they are members. Joining someone else's circle is free, but it gives you no seats and does not let you create circles.
• Billing: plans are billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and renew automatically every month or year until you cancel. You manage and cancel them in your store account. Prices depend on your country, are shown in the app before you buy, and may change with the notice the store requires.
• Introductory offer: your first circle may start with an introductory price. It is available once per person and once per phone: it is not offered if you, or a circle you belonged to, already had a plan, or if that phone already used it. We may refuse or withdraw it in case of abuse.
• Changes and cancellation: moving to fewer seats takes effect at the next renewal. When a plan ends, the circle and its members lose the paid features, but nobody is removed. Deleting a circle or your Centinela account does not cancel the subscription: cancel it in your store account, or create a new circle and it will use that plan.
• Promotions: we may offer free access in certain countries or areas, for example to people present there on several days. Promotions are limited in time and seats, granted once per phone, and may end at any time.
• Refunds: payments are processed by Apple or Google and refunds follow their policies. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.

08 Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, logos, and trademarks, is owned by Centinela and protected by law. These Terms do not grant you any right to our trademarks or branding.

09 Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that alerts are accurate, that automatic detection will work in every situation, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

10 Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CENTINELA WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON INFORMATION IN THE SERVICE. Our aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months or USD 50.

11 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Centinela from claims arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or any law.

12 Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time; deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. We may suspend or terminate your access for violations of these Terms or to protect the Service or its users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

13 Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Changing Lifes LLC is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction, except where mandatory local consumer law provides otherwise.

14 Changes to these Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
