Centinela LLC ("Centinela", "we", "us") operates the Centinela mobile application and related services (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices and rights you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
01 Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account data: email address and password (stored hashed) when you register; optional display name.
- Reports you create: alert type, optional description, optional photo, and the location you attach to a report.
- Communications: messages you send in emergency zone chats, feedback, and support requests.
Information collected automatically
- Location data: approximate or precise device location, used to show alerts near you and to place reports you choose to make. You control location permissions in your device settings.
- Device & usage data: device model, OS version, app version, language, crash logs, and basic interaction events used to operate and improve the Service.
- Identifiers: a randomly generated app/account identifier and, for push notifications, a device push token.
02 How we use information
- To deliver core functionality: show nearby alerts, publish your reports, run emergency zone chats, and send notifications.
- To verify and moderate content (community confirmation, AI and human review) and to enforce our Terms.
- To maintain safety and integrity: detect false reports, abuse, spam, and fraud, and apply our reputation and sanction systems.
- To provide support, respond to feedback, and communicate service updates.
- To analyze and improve performance, reliability, and features.
- To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
03 Legal bases for processing
Where required (e.g. under the GDPR), we process personal data on the bases of: performance of a contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (safety, security, and improvement), consent (e.g. precise location and push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time), and legal obligation.
04 How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as follows:
- With the community: reports and zone-chat messages are shown to other users in the relevant area. Reports are shown without revealing your identity; we do not expose a reporter's identity to other users.
- Service providers: vetted vendors who process data on our behalf (hosting, maps/tiles, analytics, crash reporting, push delivery, AI moderation) under contractual confidentiality and security obligations.
- Legal & safety: when required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or Centinela.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this Policy.
05 Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Active alerts and zone chats expire automatically; closed chats and resolved alerts are retained for a limited period for safety and audit, then deleted or anonymized. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data as described in our Data Safety & Account Deletion page, subject to limited legal retention.
06 Your rights & choices
- Access, correction, deletion of your personal data.
- Portability and the right to object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent (e.g. disable precise location or push notifications) at any time in device or app settings.
- Delete your account directly in the app — see the account deletion instructions.
To exercise any right, contact support@getcentinela.app. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
07 Security
We use technical and organizational measures including encryption in transit, hashed credentials, access controls, and audit logging. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work continuously to protect your data.
08 Children's privacy
Centinela is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
09 International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.
10 Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision.
